Clearly Mr. Phillips spent too much time with 'ole Tom Bowden, describing last season as being "3-4 plays away from something special." I should have taken the TDP approach and slept through the 2010 season and maybe I would have better memories from last fall. By the way, Don, Virginia Tech royally sucked and didn't have a pot to piss in football-wise before Beamer was hired there. It is really easy for TDP to tie himself to Dabo for a couple reasons, especially because we know TDP was a hair away from getting the boot last December and was evolved in the sewage line known as Tom's last contract extension. Scenario 1: (Ideally) Dabo is successful and TDP looks pretty dang smart. Scenario 2: Clemson repeats last year's performance and the Swinney crew gets canned. Clemson won't let Phillips choose another coach, so he gets fired anyway. Point is, Phillips is painted into a corner with no options so he's trying to make lemonade out of lemons (or chicken salad out of you know what, depending on how you look at the situation).
