Around SBN: NFL Owners Vote to Change Trade Deadline

The best thing that has come out of Dabo's mouth all year (starts at 1:50), except for the practice BS before. If we tackle this week and our O-line manages to open a hole in the A gaps for the run, I will give him a mulligan on that

GOOD

Glad to see Dabo fired up and not playing nice guy with rivals.

The best part about this is watching the shit storm it’s created amongst Carolina fans. Nothing says dominance when your rivals wins three in a row and is STILL on the defensive.

FUCK Carolina.

My favorite is when they say that Clemson is wrong because 34-13.

And then I’m like so one score makes all of the other facts we just threw at you wrong? Yeah, okay.

Finally!

I like Dabo but I’ve felt that he’s been too nice. This is exactly what needed to be said, regardless if OBC said it or not. Stated nothing but the facts and actaully said it in a much nicer tone than most Clemson fans would have done. I nearly fet out my seat laughing after hearing this! Hope this gets the players pumped up not only for tommorrow but also for next year because I assure you that when t hey enter the Valley next year, they will remember this. Heck they’ve probably already printed it out and put it in their locker room.

by D'Arve21 on Dec 2, 2011 7:50 AM EST reply actions

Dabo said nothing but the facts???
I don’t know if he said it or not, but I guess he did because there hasn’t been a rebuttal.

That’s not a fact.

Classy adults don’t launch into childish, insulting tirades— even if they’re based on fact. Even if it’s true he shouldn’t say stuff like, “Friedgen is fat, and he got fired but I didn’t.”

by RazzMcTazz on Dec 3, 2011 12:37 AM EST up reply actions

talk won't do a thing

Spurrier used to do this to Tennessee while he was coaching florida (e.g. “You can’t spell Citrus without UT”). If you let him dominate the series, no comment on past successes is relavant. The only way to shut him up is to hang a 63-17 type score on him next year. I suppose its good that Dabo spoke up about it but having the team prepared to play this week and winning a conference championship is a better rebuttal.

by BuckTN on Dec 2, 2011 8:39 AM EST reply actions

He telling facts about the program

SCAR is not Clemson and never will be. There’s no reason to back down from that

by BobRoss on Dec 2, 2011 10:08 AM EST up reply actions

Agreed...Dabo wasn't talking crap

USuC won and earned the right to talk crap. USuC just left too much read meat on the table and the tiger pounced! Nice work Dabo! Now WIN!!!

by T_Lee on Dec 2, 2011 10:37 AM EST up reply actions

It would carry a bit more weight if he wasn’t 1-3 against them. But I’m glad to hear him talking some factual smack. It’s really, really getting to the Cack fans down here in Columbia.

I love it.

by gslmoore on Dec 2, 2011 9:59 AM EST reply actions

Like that he's showing some fire but talk is cheap

If he were even 2-2 against USC I’d give it more credibility, but I think alot of this sounds like sour grapes. Looks like Spurrier didn’t even say it, so honestly I think it looks like Dabo’s frustrations have just boiled over and his thin skin is showing. This will either fire up the team or be further proof of a lack of focus. Who knows. I just think it’s more cheerleader talk personally. It is true we have the better program historically, but I have to say, all that matters right now is 34-13 and beating Virginia Tech.

by judge jeff davis on Dec 2, 2011 1:02 PM EST reply actions

I'd prefer standing up to the SCAR program than staying silent

Although I agree those words would have more weight if we had won. Also, this is a recent tweet from ESPN:
‘SC says Spurrier didn’t say “We sure ain’t Clemson” Dabo Swinney says today: "It’s awful convenient (to refute now) . Swinney says today if there was misunderstanding about something he allegedly said about rival he’d “pick up the phone.”’

From that it sounds like Dabo (or somebody at Clemson) had tried to confirm whether or not Spurrier said those words and couldn’t get an answer.

by BobRoss on Dec 2, 2011 1:34 PM EST up reply actions

I don't hate this

but if we come out flat Saturday it’s just going to be a reinforcement of the “Dabo is a Cheerleader” theory.

by PenthouseTiger on Dec 2, 2011 2:38 PM EST reply actions

The thing to take from this

Is that yes, we do have a great tradition here at Clemson that they don’t have and never will have at USC. But Dabo, if you’re gonna talk shit, why not try to find a way to fit into that tradition rather than being the outlier and losing 3 god damned games in a row to the cocks. Dabo has not yet become part of the long and storied tradition of great Clemson football, and he won’t until he starts winning state and conference championships.

by tripp1 on Dec 2, 2011 3:02 PM EST reply actions

Agreed. To me Dabo can start talking trash after he starts beating them. Plus, that game doesnt happen again for another yr. They need to b looking at whats ahead, now, not back to last week. Another sign of team wide lack of focus.

by TigerFan74 on Dec 2, 2011 7:53 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I'm glad to see he's got a set

I want our coach like this; like you and like me, he’s sick of those dumbasses acting like the world champs. Would it carry more weight if he would actually win once in a while – of course. But I don’t want another Tommy, acting so nice to them it turned my stomach. I want to give them ass kickings, not hugs.

I would love tommy's record back against usc....

thid doesn’t mean dabo’s got a set…it just shows he’s a spoiled kid who takes for granted clemson’s success against usc and expects to be given the win with no work put in…usc improved and the results are on the field. Dabo needs to grow up and just win

by Clemfan on Dec 3, 2011 12:46 AM EST up reply actions

Irresponsible & low class for Dabo to launch into a childish, insulting tirade about something Spurrier didn't even say.

ESPN reported on Dabo’s tirade about the misattributed quote and it makes Dabo look like a national joke.
http://espn.go.com/espn/page2/index?id=7305975

Maybe all coaches, government leaders, business leaders, et al, should launch into childish, insulting tirades about misattributed quotes. What a great world that would be. Such stupidity. Shut up and win. Grow up and get a little class instead of standing in the playground insulting the kid who just beat you.

I don’t know if he said it or not, but I guess he did because there hasn’t been a rebuttal. If he said that, I am disappointed because I was taught to win or lose with class. That is kind of a childish thing to put out there, to be honest with you. I think our program here speaks for itself. I guess I would have to say I agree with him. He is right. They are not Clemson and they aren’t ever going to be Clemson, to be honest with you…

…Coach Spurrier has been there for seven years, but after five years I think he had 35 wins and got a new contract and all that kind of stuff. After five years at Clemson, if I have only got 35 wins there is going to be a new coach here and you know what there should be because there is a different standard…

Dabo thinks a misquote must be true because there was no rebuttal? How ridiculous. I’m glad everybody else in the world doesn’t operate on that stupid assumption. Verify before making a fool of yourself.

Dabo calls the one-sentence statement “childish” but then Dabo launches into a 3-paragraph rant that’s 5 times as childish. The hypocrisy is comical.

by RazzMcTazz on Dec 3, 2011 12:20 AM EST reply actions   1 recs

Why do you care so much about this Razz?

If Spurrier was in a similar situation and said a similar thing I wouldn’t care at all. If you’re letting another teams coach ruin your day then you need to reorder your priorities.

I really think you’re blowing it out of proportion.

by BobRoss on Dec 3, 2011 1:12 AM EST up reply actions

Another team's coach isn't ruining my day.

Dabo isn’t even ruining my day. I’m expressing my opinion.

by RazzMcTazz on Dec 3, 2011 1:18 AM EST up reply actions

state of clemson

this is ridiculous. Dabo shouldn’t have said anything. He has never beat usc as a full time head coach. Usc owns clemson right now in all major sports. We need wins against them. Let that be our talkin…just another stop on dabo’s shock the world tour…

by Clemfan on Dec 3, 2011 12:42 AM EST reply actions   1 recs

Way too many people are overreacting to this.

None of it matters one damn bit.

Game is over, I don’t care what he says about Spurrier or SC as long as he says nothing like what Allen and Walker said Tuesday.

by DrB on Dec 3, 2011 1:08 AM EST reply actions

Exactly. I think it's hilarious that the scar fans are freaking out over this

If something like this came out of their camp I would care at all. They don’t dictate my life or emotions, but apparently Dabo controls theirs.

by BobRoss on Dec 3, 2011 1:14 AM EST up reply actions

Their comments and Steele’s presser pissed me off almost as much as a loss does.

by ggggmen08 on Dec 3, 2011 11:50 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

sorry mishit enter

I think it may matter, apparently recruits are eating this up.

by harcumcs on Dec 3, 2011 12:50 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yes, that's the first thing I thought...

This seemed to me like a completely planned speech as PR for recruits and some more emotional fans that would appreciate him attacking Spurrier like this.

This is just the “par-for-the-course” response that any Clemson fan uses when we start catching too much s$%& from a Cock fan. (except Dabo conveniently had all the important stats memorized…hmmm)

So, if a 17 year-old recruit from out of state didn’t know these facts, well, they do now. I’m fine with that and I’m fine with Dabo and Spurrier not liking each other.

by TheKraken on Dec 3, 2011 1:08 PM EST up reply actions

I just hope those recruits don't read ESPN or watch College Football Live...

… because the objective reporting on this makes Dabo look defensive, petty, and “less than classy”.
http://espn.go.com/espn/page2/index?id=7305975
http://espn.go.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/33577/swinney-vs-spurrier-part-ii

CFB Live ran the story, including video of the rant. It made Dabo look bad.

But who knows?… Maybe high school kids like it when a coach acts like that.

by RazzMcTazz on Dec 3, 2011 3:35 PM EST up reply actions

They do. Think back to what the locker room was like...

“Retweet this is ya think coach Swinney my future head coach at Clemson is a G for what he said about them gamecocks.” -Chad Kelly

Dabo just basically listed the history of the two teams which is highly slanted in Clemson’s favor.

He didn’t say, “Yo Steve, you think you funny. Well, step in to the terrordome mothf’er. You want a piece of this b%^& right here, I ain’t that hard to find. And after I’m done with you, Imma drag your wife up to Bily Brice and put her face in the doo doo ice. Belee dat.”

by TheKraken on Dec 3, 2011 4:07 PM EST up reply actions   1 recs

I wouldn't expect commited recruits to decommit over it.

Dabo didn’t swear or anything, but look at the grey, and boldface type from my post above. Dabo’s commentsw were petty, defensive, childish, and insulting. Talking about Spurrier’s contract and whatnot? C’mon. Classy adults don’t do that.

by RazzMcTazz on Dec 3, 2011 6:27 PM EST up reply actions

It had the desired impact: To rally his base.

However, he’s getting killed in the national media…and his rant was essentially a long-winded way of saying “We used to beat them before I took over.”

by Uhaul on Dec 3, 2011 6:49 PM EST up reply actions

Not sure why you're so bent out of shape Razz...

From what I’ve seen, Dabo has been nothing but cordial with Spurrier, and I think this comment was the last straw. Spurrier certainly wasn’t very quick to refute the quotation, and if it wasn’t him why was it “attributed to Spurrier”?

Dabo even went so far as to complement Carolina a couple of times during his “tirade”. Lots of people are firing back at Dabo calling his remarks childish, but what does that make the comment posted on the official Gamecock football twitter? Classy? I think not. Is everyone just so conditioned to Spurrier’s childish attacks on his own team and others that Spurrier (and Carolina in general) gets a pass?

by matchless on Dec 5, 2011 9:43 AM EST up reply actions

I tell you what, I loved that

“After 5 years spurrier had 35 wins and got a new contract, if after 5 years I only have 35 wins there’ll be a new coach here. We have a higher standard here…”

Wow, Best thing I’ve ever hear Dabo say!!!
