GAMETHREAD: Clemson @ Sakerlina

Clemson Tigers at South Carolina Gamecocks, Nov 26, 2011 7:45 PM EST

Never lose faith in the Curse

Well it really comes down to who put forth the effort in practice this week. If Clemson's defensive front prepared to stuff the run like we did last year, and our offensive line decides to rise to the challenge and actually block, Clemson can and should win this game.

The zone read is not a complex play, but to defend it you must be disciplined, and we have not been that at all this season, so I have little confidence we hold the rushing attack below 150 yards. Frankly, I would not be surprised if Carolina looked like the Patriots.

Still, its a rivalry, and these games can go either way, and I fucking hate Sakerlina. Clemson by 50.

Go Tigers

Dear God, let us play decent defense and protect the football. Offensive line play and some emotion wouldn’t hurt, either.

by jonathanrivers on Nov 26, 2011 2:01 PM EST reply actions

Announcers for the GT/UGA said that UGA practiced shedding

cut blocks and arc blocks on the outside. VT did the same thing. Both of these teams will beat Ga Tech. Hopefully, someone on our staff is paying attention.

BTW, Maryland is beating NC State by 20 at halftime.

by TigerEast on Nov 26, 2011 2:18 PM EST reply actions

Yep. The announcer said UGA did tackling and the scout team did cut-blocking all week.

Clemson’s senior leadership council probably voted against blocking & tackling at practice, and Dabo agreed.

Plain and Simple, Short and Sweet! Clemson must play disciplined and smart football if they are going to win tonight in Coot town! Otherwise, I would not be surprised if we don’t get embarrassed! Go Tigers make us proud!

I feel like our first couple of offensive series will be crucial. We are in dire need of some confidence – and will need it early.

Please lord be with our o-line and have them play the game of their careers.

Go Tigers!!!

Looks like Drb is hitting the juice early today ;)

Clemson by 50, eh ? Well I’ll take that prediction any day. Aside from play in the trenches, I think turnovers could be the big difference early.

by PapaCinco on Nov 26, 2011 3:26 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I hope to see a Tiger team that is flat out ready to throw down tonight!

We’ve definitely got it. And now, for the first time since VaTech, it’s time to bring it. Let’s go Tigers!

Who here thinks Tajh is a lock for the starting QB next year?

by COTiger1 on Nov 26, 2011 9:25 PM EST up reply actions

That is the question. I do not think we have any better...

and that is not to say that he is bad, because he is pretty good. Needs to definitely focus on mechanics in the offseason. Hopefully the decision making will get better in the offseason.

by COTiger1 on Nov 26, 2011 9:28 PM EST up reply actions

He definitely will.

There’s no doubt he’s had a bad second half of the season, but he also had about as good of a first half as you could want. Give him another year to learn the offense and I think he’ll be much better.

First year starter, brand new offense. You don’t have to be satisfied with his second half, but I think it’s a bit early to start calling for his head.

by tmac9wr on Nov 26, 2011 9:29 PM EST up reply actions

Not calling for his head, the question is is he a lock...

I really think his the best we have and his is pretty good. For this offense to be great you do need a dual threat QB.

by COTiger1 on Nov 26, 2011 9:33 PM EST up reply actions

true, but with two years learning this scheme, they could be better. Our run blocking has been all but nonexistent this year.

by tmac9wr on Nov 26, 2011 9:30 PM EST up reply actions

Well certainly wish we were on the upside of the scoreboard, but at least it’s only a 1 possession game and we can come out tie this thing up…..a few things concern me though, obviously the defense is just a mind numbing thing to watch for 4qtrs, but at some point if were going to win they are going to have to make something happen for us…..and the other is the o-line and with that keeping Tajh upright…hopefully we make some adjustments and can steal this thing late…

Can we now start spending more than 3 days a year live tackling. We tackle like we have been practicing against stationary objects…which we have.

SC is taking away what Tajh wants to do they are forcing him into uncomfortable situations and he is clueless…

WHY THE FUCK cant our defense begin to grapse this concept.. we just get Sanduskyed on every play and come back for more.

Nothing like getting your ass handed to you by a team that has its

best players injured. And Clemson, we cry because a walk-on tackle is hurt. Pathetic, but that is what you get when you do a crap job recruiting linemen, have Brad Scott for a decade, then don’t hit in practice. Nothing will change until the BOT changes, then the AD, then finally the football coach.

by mongoose on Nov 26, 2011 11:00 PM EST reply actions

I say Morris goes too...

If we’re gonna make a move let’s do it the right way this time and start completely over with a clean slate. We failed to do that when we finally decided to fire Tommy and we’re still suffering for it.

by Failbo on Nov 26, 2011 11:17 PM EST up reply actions

Well it is official. We have not moved forward as a program...

which is why we fired TB. to get to the next level that is. Look at the season as a whole. We really struggle against inferior talent all year and pull out wins. We beat a mediocre FSU team and a mediocre Auburn team (maybe a bad team). And basically pull off an upset of Va Tech. But we are in the ACCCG. That sucks because it masks the reallity of the situation. All this means is that we are second again.

by COTiger1 on Nov 26, 2011 11:03 PM EST reply actions

Epic Collapse

We are truly a bad football team; not sure what else can or should be said.
I have never written IPTAY or TDP but that changes tomorrow.
By the way, USuC beats us again next year but at least we’ll be 6-5 going into the game.

by rswdad on Nov 26, 2011 11:12 PM EST reply actions

I wish that was the extent of our problems. Does he really think we’re dumb enough to believe that the problems don’t run much deeper than that!?

by Failbo on Nov 26, 2011 11:22 PM EST up reply actions

until you fire Dabo , Batson , Steele , and the Scotts - expect the same outcome .

The problem IS the urgency , heart , and fundementals . We will NEVER have that until we have a (BAMA) complete culture change in Clemson . Dabo is the absolute product of the mediocrity that the BOT and the ignorant fans that fill the seats on Saturdays . As long as you buy tickets too these highschool games , we will NEVER ever beat the Alabamas’ of the the world . I don’t care what you say , Dabo is a Bowden leftover and shit will always be shit on Dabos’ watch .

by tyeargin on Nov 26, 2011 11:45 PM EST reply actions

AMEN

I agree. Dabo was the cheap and easy move. TDP knew that with the TB buyout that $ would be an issue, so he went with the hope that Dabo could save them a buck. And here we are with the same ol shit.

by Beauforttiger on Nov 26, 2011 11:50 PM EST up reply actions

"Heart of a Champion" that has "greatness in them"

Thanks Dabo for confirming what the rest of the nation has been saying about us for years. Thanks for letting potential recruits see you get your ass handed to you by your in state rival for the THIRD YEAR IN A ROW. Even if you leave now, you have fucked us for years to come. What decent recruit would want a part of this. I say that we stop giving CU our money and time until they get serious about real change with a real coach.

by DrB on Nov 27, 2011 12:46 AM EST via mobile up reply actions

Does Morris get too much credit?

I really think Boyd’s stock is down considerably and maybe its his lack of confidence in his OL, but he does not look comfortable in the pocket, can not run, and has not hit targets. He just looks like he is not improving in these very important areas.

Yes, Morris has introduced a very exciting play book, but I think the better teams adjusted to it and used our weakness against us.

Three and out for this offense is terrible. I still think we will go nowhere if we cant move the defense off the line.

by Tigerpaws37 on Nov 26, 2011 11:54 PM EST reply actions   1 recs

It is no longer getting any credit for anything

Because it has only played one decent quarter in the last 16 quarters of football

by Cristo on Nov 26, 2011 11:56 PM EST up reply actions

Tajh's early success was strictly due to the system.

Anytime he has to improvise or when his initial read isn’t open he panics. He also has very poor pocket presence in my opinion. These problems have been present since the start of the season, but like the defensive woes, they tend to go unoticed when you’re winning.

by Failbo on Nov 27, 2011 12:00 AM EST up reply actions

2011...

Feels a lot more like 1991 than 1981.

You guys know I haven’t been on the fire Batson wagon, BUT after watching the colossal Bowden-esque tailspin that this season has turned into, I think I would be open to some top-to-bottom turnover occurring in the football program sometime soon. Batson included. There is too much talent here for there for to be an excuse for teams EVER looking this soft. Not even in one game, let alone 4 in a row.

Buddy Morris is looking for work..

by Stronghold on Nov 27, 2011 12:08 AM EST reply actions

You can't fake football

We have been trying for years to out ‘big play’ everybody and we cannot hit anyone in the mouth. This team/program is completely broken, no question. We’ve had our asses handed to us by two bad offenses in consecutive weeks, and we really shouldn’t have beaten Wake Forest.

We need to get ride of TDP, Dabo, Steele, Batson, Morris, and everyone else. New eyes are needed on this issue. Losing to SC 3 years in a row is unacceptable, especially with the patchwork team Spurrier has assembled this year. We don’t have a coach, plain and simple. There’s also no way the team is buying the bullshit they’re getting fed now, either. Hire a real SOB to run this team; I would still kill for Gary Patterson. Watching the Virginia Tech game today they were talking about how Logan Thomas started out as a TE, and one of their receivers was a QB; they evaluated talent and moved them to better positions for them. When have we progressed anyone lately?

Next week we will get shut out.

by judge jeff davis on Nov 27, 2011 12:20 AM EST reply actions   1 recs

Shouldn't Morris and Caldwell stay?

they haven’t had time to be fireable, but if we do get a new HC, then yeah, let him assemble a new staff that he will work well with. Personally I’d be in favor of promoting Morris to HC. It didn’t seem like he would tolerate Batson’s crap, and I think he has a better grasp of the way to run a team.
