State of Georgia Recruiting
Exactly who has recruiting responsibilities in Georgia?
In 2010, we signed 7 recruits from Georgia including Crawford, Jenkins, Beasley and Webster who will all be solid contributors in the program. If I remember correctly, CDS proclaimed recruiting Georgia was a priority, and UGA had some coaching turnover that year and was limited in schollies. UGA wanted Crawford really bad but could not turn him after firing his position coach.
In 2011, we signed 2 recruits from Georgia. Jarrett seems to be logging some snaps early, but the other is a kicker. Results are tapering off from CDS' Georgia initiative.
In 2012, we will most likely not sign any recruits from Georgia. Scanning Rivals Top75 Georgia recruits I see Vandy, Michigan St., Va. Tech, Stanford, and Oklahoma St. all have commitments. SCAR has 8 commitments in the Georgia Top75. Clemson is being completely shutout and there are many names I see on the list Clemson had offered.
I live in Georgia, and I experience first hand the draw and expectations for Georgia kids to attend UGA, but oddly enough, UGA only has 7 commitments on the list. I expect that number to increase by signing day, but UGA is not able to slam the door on the state anymore. Next year's (2013) 2 top recruits from Georgia will both end up in Tuscaloosa. 247Sports has already rated these guys 1 & 2 nationally in next year's class. Richt is no longer able to keep the top notch Georgia talent from leaving the state.
My question is who on the Clemson staff is dropping the ball on the recruiting trail in Georgia? The quantity and quality of talent in Georgia is undeniable and programs throughout the nation know it. It is not just southeastern schools recruiting Georgia. Previewing the 2013 class in South Carolina, the talent pool looks thin while Georgia is well represented in 247sports preliminary rankings. A funny thing about their rankings is the top rated player in SC for 2013 is Tramel Terry who just recently decommitted from UGA.
These opinions are not necessarily those of the Proprietors of Shakin' The Southland.

Maybe we are going after the players we want most
Instead of going after a state and gettign whatever players are there.
If we get good players that fill needs, what difference does it make where they are from?
The answer is that all of our coaches dropped the ball in GA
because all of them recruit there, like in SC, each Clemson coach has a territory in Georgia.
I dont consider it a problem unless we dont fill needs. I think we got more needs filled in NC this year, and it might be the same again next year when I look at the Jr recruiting.
Tony Elliott is the one to watch though, he’s going to get some big ones from GA for us.
