Quick Hitter at the Goalline at the end of the 1st Half
Hey I had a quick question about the "quick hitter" where Rod McDowell got about 3 yards near the goalline at the end of the 1st half. I'm pretty sure that Auburn ran a play like this last year so I wouldn't call it a newly designed trick play and I saw variations of this play ran under Tommy Bowden while at Clemson. Do you think Dabo ran this play on purpose from the standpoint of him being able to tell Bellamy that this would have been his play had he not ran his mouth? I actually have no problem with the play call and I wouldn't call this a severe form of "trickeration". Plus the play netted 3 yards and we still had the opportunity for more plays at the goalline. My biggest complaint about the play was seeing McDowell...I do not know this for sure, but that play has Bellamy written all over it.
These opinions are not necessarily those of the Proprietors of Shakin' The Southland.

I would say its a Rooskie of some type or a Panther play
It was a Dabo call, I’m sure of that. It netted 5 in the stats.
But yeah, one would think its a better play for a guy like Bellamy than McDowell.
I think at the time they were clearly trying to score (not just trying to send a message to a player who made a poor decision earlier in the week) and, as stated above, this looks to have Swinney’s signature on it. I wouldn’t have made this call, but it is what it is…we probably shouldn’t have used the 1st timeout earlier in this drive and would have had more options at the goal line, but hindsight is 20/20.
I am sure Bellamy got his fair share of grief in addition to being benched early. I would wager that you’re correct in that the staff would rather run a guy like Bellamy particularly on a slight of hand play like that one.
