BRAD SCOTT OUT, ROBBIE CALDWELL IN
Rivals reports today what we've known about here since it was confirmed to me a couple weeks ago.
Brad Scott, who has taken every position he's been given at Clemson and done zilch, is now moving to an Administrative role. The BEST OL COACH in the Southeast is going to get the job.
If you saw this random Tweet from my account and asked about it, now you know why.

Question #2
I don’t know all 120 OL coaches in America, but do know Rick Trickett is considered a good one. Who would you take, Trickett or Caldwell?
Trickett.
But seriously, you can either coach or you can’t. At some point drawing lines between excellent coaches is futile. Clemson went from someone very bad to someone very good.
This team will improve in '10... on its 16-16 conference record over the last 4 years.... after losing 20 games in the last 4 years... after having the 7th worst major-conference defense... after not even winning its own division in the ACC in the last 4.

The thing that drives me crazy about Trickett
is when his line doesn’t move for a defensive offsides. Instead of getting a free play, FSU’s QBs are just running for their life. If the guy is offside, the flag will be thrown whether the linemen stay in stance or not. Why not take advantage of the free play?
It’s a combination of getting the guaranteed call and discipline. I don’t feel strongly either way. They’ve never failed to get the call. Now, if FSU didn’t have a mobile QB I would definitely not favor it.

So the real question is...
Has Dabo been reading this blog? It seems he’s made just about every coaching change yall have been calling for, weird.
heck yeah
bring that sumbitchy on we need new blood, fsu can have trickett his stick is getting old there already this year they will regress while clemson PROgresses without scott.
fsu gets their arse whippin in the valley again, they better stop reading their press clippins and start working out.
Awesome.
Are the staff changes finished, or do you think we see some more movement? I could see Elliot and J Scott switching, but have no idea if that will happen or not. Also, does B Scott take Woody’s job, and if so, then what does Woody do? Just curious.
So how soon should we expect significant improvement from the O line?

I have heard of more staff shuffle, but not sure if I believe it.
I do not think Brad takes Woody’s job, I think Brad takes Dooley’s job.
Everything I’ve heard is that Woody doesnt want back into coaching at the moment.
OL improvement will depend on how well this offseason conditioning goes first and foremost. Caldwell brings a new attitude.
yes yes yes !!!
I AM SIKED about this hire . I wonder too if those guys read this blog . Killer hire , I’m loving it !!!
Hell Yes!
Very very excited about this hire. Caldwell looks and sounds like he belongs at Clemson. He puts me in mind of Coach Howard. Out of all the new hires, I think this was the best one. Given that we’re still stuck with Brad Jr on staff, I’m wondering if McNeal doesn’t switch over to coach WR and Jeff RB. Seems to me that receiver is a much more complicated position to coach and Jeff obviously has no clue what he’s doing. Anyway, glad the rumors panned out on this one. Welcome Coach Caldwell!
Well
All I can say is it’s about damn time.

Caldwell
Is there a connection between Dabo/Caldwell? Brooks have anything to do with this hire, which seems to be a tremendous upgrade?
Also, any thoughts on what Caldwell can bring to getting some upgraded talent at the OL position? We can’t seem to get many highly rated/sought after guys (in general) and haven’t for years.
Caldwell will inherit 4 starters (5 if you count Cloy who has started in the past)
the problem has been having more than 6 viable linemen playing in the same season. If his coaching ability can cut down on the 3 to 4 year learning curve the Scott lines seem to have, then the current players on scholarship and commitments may be good enough in 2011 and 12. By their nature of recruiting services, more emphasis is placed on the skill positions; 4 star OL are not that plentiful.
If the staff recruited halfway decent, they managed to get some talent on that side of the ball. I think the lines performance was a combination of lack of toughness, (lack of) identity of the offense, and conditioning. Danny Ford apparently saw it at practices. Could explain why a line could hold a Jerry Hughes (2009) and Nick Fairley (2010) to one sack in two games, and then let patchwork lines from MD (2009) and WF (2010) abuse them for entire game.
This year KP had the uncanny ability to sack himself more often times. And I won’t even comment on Jamie Harper and the art of hitting the hole.Morris should remedy that. Caldwell has some pieces to work with, and an entire off-season to start. And not to sound like I am a Brad Scott supporter but he only coached the line and struggled to get the starters and a sub to play somewhat consistent. He had no control over Kyle’s get happy & roll rIght routine, Jamie’s shaking and baking, or the starting of Terrance and Xavier. Maybe we will see Brandon Thomas (a highly regarded OT recruit) finally develop and maybe just maybe Dr. B. will see Landon Walker move someone….
It's funny
Once the wheels fell off early this season, a lot of us on this site said - play the kids.. that took 4 games
Ellington needs the carries – it took the 5 games to figure that out
senior WRs suck -
At a coaching level, we said that Powell and B scott had to go and we HAVE to figure out an identity for this offense. ALL 3 of those things have now happened.
However, we were all told we were the crazy 5% midseason.. Dabo attacked us in press conferences as not being the “real fans” Now.. all the shit we harped about… they’re fixing.
Dabo
I am still not “ALL IN” with Dabo but he is definitely redeeming himself with the way he is setting up for next year. Let’s go Tigers!!! Oh I still want TDP’s ass strung up, tarred, feathered and burned.

Wait, did we actually hire Caldwell or is it still speculative?
Post & Courier has not confirmed it, but they are always late on everything.

I was wondering the same thing, although I would be surprised if they let the info get out and then no hire was made.

The hire will be made.
Its not official yet. Never is til the deal is signed and the background check is complete.
I would imagine they are delaying so Brad can still go on the road as well.
Thanks for clearing that up.
It is interesting that they are basically doing everything yall said they should do. I hated last season, but you have to give the man some credit for making what appear to be the right changes. Would love to hear yall’s thoughts on where the program stands once we wrap up this recruiting class and get all of the assistant coaches in place.

Has anyone thought about....
the fact that we may really struggle next year for a different reason.
We lose 5 starters from our D this year – Jenkins, Bowers, Maxwell, Gilchrist, and DMac.
The D line had some depth, but we’re going to have 3 new starters in the secondary to go along with our already “stellar” LB play. I would imagine that teams are not going to have a hard time throwing on us while the new starters get more comfortable in their roles.
We only lose 2 starters on O – KP and C Hairston (in addition, we only lose 2 starters on the 2 deep with Jamie leaving early). We have a new OC, and a new OL coach (hopefully) If Taj works his ass off for the next 8 months and really begins to grasp this new offense… i’m not really worried about the O.
Are we going to be able to stop anyone next year ??
I think we have a lot of talent
In the secondary, it might take a little bit to adjust to the speed of the game, but I don’t think it would be more than a game or 2. My hopes for the LBs aren’t as high, but I think the defense will experience much less of a dropoff than many are predicting.

I am not too worried about the defense, either.
They will just have to make sure they are in good shape because the offense will not hold the ball for very long.
