Kyle Parker selected by Colorado Rockies with the 26th pick in the 1st round.
Assured signing bonus of $1 million plus here at the end of the 1st round.
He has to choose by Aug. 14th.
What would you do if you had been offered $1-2 million just to sign a contract when you were 21?

Stay at Clemson, try and get a higher draft pick and money the next draft, win a football championship, and tell all the soriety girls I stayed just for them

Or realize that you're putting your fate in the hands of the coaching legend, Brad Scott
and his merry band of offensive linemen. Brad can make any tackle prospect into a back up guard in his sleep. But seriously, the line should be a strength with the experience from last year, but just like the qb position depth there is tenuous. Billy and Co will have to be ready, because Parker will more than likely not be there in August, and who could blame him.
rockies threw $3.9 million at a similar pick last year
and expectations are that KP will in fact sign a deal with Colorado.
Similar pick? Not at ALL
Matzek was picked 11th, not 26th, and Matzek was regarded as potentially the 2nd best talent in the draft behind Strasburg, who fell due to signability concerns. KP was considered a reach at 26 by many, though he is expected to sign at slightly above slot.

RS Freshman who came in at 5-stars and the highest 6.0 ranking by Rivals

Tajh Boyd, and those who watched him this Spring say he is not ready to be an ACC starter, saying losing Parker drops Clemson from a 9-3/8-4/7-5 team to a 7-5/6-6/5-7 type team. Doesn’t matter if he is a 5 star player.
You are aware that I was answering his question
and that I did also see alot of Boyd this spring as well. Go read the archives.
Question about Boyd.
Do you think Tajh Boyd played better, worse, or about the same as most RS Freshman QB’s would have done in their first Spring Practice going with the 1’s? Also, do you think the coaches created situations in the scrimages where they figured he would struggle just so it would bring him back down to Earth and make him forget about being a 5-star recruit, all-American game MVP, ect? I mean, the coaches clearly have a heck of a lot of control over the scrimages (because they are coaching both sides of the ball), and I imagine they know what he understands. Basically, it would be very easy for them to throw some defenses at him in a scrimage that he has not seen, and puposely put him at a disadvantage.
Basically, it seems to me that if the coaches had dumbed it down for Tajh in the scrimages, then he would have said, “Hey, I am ready to be the starter”. That would have made him tend to be lazy, but it also would not really be fair to KP, because they would obviously ask him to do more under center in the practices, because he has a year of experience.

He has much more leverage now than he will have this time next year. You have to think he will go. That is a lot of cash and I really don’t see how anyone could blame him for leaving based on that dollar figure.

Right. He has no way of knowing he'll be taken this high next year, so you have to think he will strike while the iron is hot.
I don’t think it’s (if it does indeed happen) a huge loss for Clemson, though. Those early season games against Auburn, Miami, and UNC will be a trial by fire for him, but eventually Boyd will be a good QB. You’ll be fine as long as he stays healthy.

Unless he turns into Garcia or Cullen Harper, looks really good on paper would rather die then deal with that stuff

Fair enough. Certainly, you would be better off with Parker deciding to stay. I guess I'm just trying to be the sober Carolina fan by saying that it's probably not the end of the world for CU football.
At least as long as Boyd stays healthy. That seems like the kicker. If he gets hurt, you can kiss the season goodbye.

yep essentially top 50 is equivalent to a lottery pick in the nba or
top 10 pick in the nfl draft. He is maybe the best offensive player in one of college baseball’s best conferences. Well unless Kyle really really loves football, I wish him the best with Rockies.
Tahj will have his first test the third game of the season on the road, like K Parker had in week 2 in Atl last year. Let’s hope the coaching staff has it’s A game at the beginning of the game rather than the middle of the 2nd quarter. Brad Scott better have his line ready to block somebody. I didn’t like the plan of letting Derrick Morgan tackle and sack us so much he wouldn’t have anything left in the tank during the second half rally. Well here’s to the future, because it starts now!
Hey fellas. Sorry about what could be your loss.
Boyd will be a good QB in 2011. Just press the fast forward button. lol. Seriously though, you’ve got a great recruiting class coming in 2011. All is not lost with Clemson football.
92 days till Samford. 09.04.10.
Napier better start changing the offense to whatever level Boyd is at
Because even though they said he is too green and not ready, he is going to be getting the job.
You know Parker’s parents will tell him to take the $; not to mention the lure of it all for a guy that age, so there is not much chance he is staying. So at least we had him for one year so Boyd could redshirt.
We really better mix up the recruiting and go after a QB now. Funny, just 1 year ago we were set at QB for years and now it is looking grim…
You have that right.
The good news is that the Napier will have some time over the summer to adjust his strategy, and Boyd could end up with more reps than Parker had last Fall, as Parker split time with Korn for a few weeks. I wish Parker was coming back, but will be happy for him if he gets a fat signing bonus and is able to go onto a productive major league career.
The other good news is that Tajh was a 5-star QB, and did perform really well in the All-American game. I am sure he will have some growing pains, but he should have the tools to eventually be a good one.

They are throwing out QB offers left and right
but Tony McNeal is their guy, they really like him. Rivals has underrated him at a 5.6 3-star, he’s better than that and his rating will come up, but they are going after others.
LeMay is not in the picture, he’s scared off by Boyd, but I would not be surprised at all if we had another couple 3-star commits here.

That is good, but it is not going to help us this season.
People give the staff a hard time about getting us into this predicament, but the truth is that they had three highly rated QB’s on the roster last season who all hadf plenty of remaining eligibility. I guess they figured Korn would leave (since anyone with a brain could figure that out), but no one really thought Parker would be leaving until the baseball season got cranked up.
So if Parker leaves, which we are all assuming he will, then our two scholarship QB’s for next season are Boyd and Wade. Wade graduates after next season, so it is highly likely a true freshman will come in and be the back-up QB. (The only way that does not happen is if a walkon beats them out for the job). My guess is that they will be able to coax a pretty dang good HS QB to sign with us, given that he would be an injury away from starting as a true freshman.
So if I am Billy Napier, I am telling Tajh to not be a hero, and slide, run out of bounds, or do whatever it takes to avoid injury. And, I bet Dabo does not give Tajh a hard time for running out of bounds the way he gave Parker a hard time last year.

Latest is that Parker will be offered between $1.3-1.9 million
and if the Rockies let him play football he will be open to it, but if they press him to play baseball only-he’s gone.
Thanks for keeping us posted.
At this point, I think football is a negotiating tool more than anything else, and he will use that to squeeze everything he can out of them.
