Clemson nabs #1 RB in Florida Mike Bellamy and Valdosta CB Gerald Orta
Mike Bellamy (5'10 175, 4.31 40'), the #1 Back in Florida and #13 overall by Rivals has committed to Clemson. Brad Scott is the recruiter of record, with assistance from Jeff. He had over 2100yds, 9.9 ypc, and 31 TDs last season. He has over 4000 and 60 TDs in the last couple years.
Absolutely huge commitment. Currently he's rated as the #3 RB nationally in the Rivals 100. He can fly, he's great in space, and will be a dual threat out of the backfield. I'm a little surprised he's not a 5-star player but Rivals is not handing those out this year so much. Per Scout, he's a 5-star and #5 nationally at RB.
Along with Marlin Lane (#42 player overall in Rivals 100, #9 RB by Scout), we have two of the top backs in Florida. Unless we lose Bellamy, and I would not say its over considering his track record, we would not take anyone at RB who is not an oversign possibility. Those would be Mike Blakely (#22 overall Rivals, #29 RB Scout) or Isiah Crowell (#17 overall Rivals, #2 RB by Scout), if they chose us. I'm not optimistic that either will go for us at the moment, but I think we do have a shot at one of them.
You can thank C.J. for us being in it with so many great RBs from Florida this year.
Gerald Orta, a 5'10 175lb DB from Lowndes-Valdosta GA committed yesterday, and I'm withholding my opinion until I see more film of him in person. Otherwise I'd have posted this yesterday. I have seen some, and he is a thin muscular kid who will definitely play Cornerback at Clemson. I suspect he's a high-level 3-star commitment in the first sets of ratings. Perhaps a 4-star, but he's not in the first Rivals250 (first rankings will be done in about 2-3 weeks). A good commitment and Charlie Harbison has enough in the bank with me to get my vote of confidence with his choice. He's a Dan Pearman recruit, but Harbison closed the deal.

Scout currently has Orta as a 2 star, but these rankings are Junior rankings so I would not take too much from that number. I look for him to be a solid 3 start prospect when the dust settles. From all that I have read, this will be a good pick up for the Tigers. The number that I am not too big on (that may not be very accurate) is the 40 time listed (4.83), so judgment will be withheld until fall (at the earliest).

Could CJ be the start of a RB factory through Clemson, much like Penn State is known as LB U?
Especially with speed backs, if Ellington does well this year, and Bellamy picks it up the year or two after that, we could get on every speed RBs wish list, as we have demonstrated we know how to use them.
Great pick-ups.
But it is not over by any stretch. There is a long time between now and signing day, but if Ellington and Harper have big years, and we have a decent season, then we should be in pretty good shape if Lane and Bellamy are excited about playing together.
There is something in these Hills!
Here's hoping the "Spiller effect" helps us nab some big OLs
who want to come in and open up holes. We need that as much or more than RBs.
And second, let’s hope these guys stick it out and sign and don’t pull a Loston/Holloway on us.
Amen.
I want to see us sign about three stud offensive tackles this time around. Come on, Brandon Shell!
People will compare players to CJ Spiller forever, but the honest to goodness truth is that it will be hard for a player to match what he brought to the table, both on the field and off the field.

Bellamy
From the clips, it looks as though he has great wheels and good vision. In the majority of these runs, the O-line is blowing huge holes. He’s typically untouched into the secondary. Anyone know if we are recruiting any of the linemen?
Zach Debell is supposedly in that area, next town over
but hes not on these teams to my knowledge.

Debell plays for Tarpon Springs. It is about an hour and half away.
Charlotte only had one lineman good enough to recruit but he wasn’t near where he needed to be academically and went to JUCO.

Clemson has dropped Orta from the commitment list
it appears he was wavering and the issue with Darius Robinson rubbed them the wrong way last year, so they are going to drop him.
He wanted to take his visits and be listed as a ‘soft’ commit and Harbison wasnt having it.
