In Search of the Expert's Insight on Jacoby Ford

Please excuse my presence on your fine site. I am humble man, who has suffered from the lifelong affliction of Raider Fandom. Don't worry--it's not contagious. Anyway, the Raider Nation is getting a little excited that things may be finally turning. We are hoping Mr. Ford can be a part of the turnaround.

I haven't seen enough Clemson football to have a strong feel for Ford's game and the so-called experts analysis on players coming out of college is too cookie cutter and generic. I want some info from the fans. This is the best place for the real scoop on players.

Please add whatever insights you have on his game. I also have a couple of questions.

Did most of his catches come from him lined up on the outside or in the slot?

Does he have any fear going over the middle?

Any problems with fumbling punts?

Thanks for any insights!

I would say an NFL slot WR

but needs to bulk up a little for the NFL. He’s a speed guy and though I expect him to start as returner, he does run OK routes and his hands aren’t bad.

He’s got pro bowl speed but not the elusiveness of a Steve Smith and hasn’t shown a pro bowl commitment so far, but if he works hard enough then who knows.

Think Speed

Ford is extremely fast. He is not large, and he is not extremely elusive at at evading tacklers. His hands improved dramatically over the course fof his career. He was able to beat people deep as well as make short catches underneath and simply blaze past whoever was trying to cover him.

He is a good player, but I would not pin your franchise hopes on him. Like any WR, he is only as good as the QBs who have to get the ball to him!
