While most of us are still recovering from Saturday night's pathetic (but predictable) showing, our hoops team begins an important 3 game stretch tomorrow vs Michigan.
The Tigers may be one of the few ACC teams actually favored to win its matchup vs a Big 10 opponent. With all of our frustration over our football team going 4-4 in a very weak conference, I dont know if we've taken stock of just how far the basketball programs in the ACC have fallen. Duke is the best team in the country and may go 15-1 in conference. UNC and Va tech were both ranked in the early going, but both have already lost multiple games. The Big 10 has 5 teams ranked in the top 25.
Our Tigers are going to be a work in progress. It's not easy having to un-learn the poor fundamentals and frantic style that OP preached for most of the last decade. I just want to see progress over the course of the ACC season. I want to see that these kids are being COACHED up. OP was not very good at maximizing the individual talents of his players. I've seen a TON of improvement early on from Milton, Devon, and Jerai, but i just expect them to continue to get better. In order for this team to try to get to the middle of the ACC this year, Andre and Tanner HAVE to shoot the ball better. It's a sad state of affairs at the 2 and 3 position when those 2 guys are starting for an ACC team that has made the big dance 3 straight years. Coach Brownell still has 3 open scholarships to fill for next year, and we desperately need help at the wings.
Looking forward to Michigan, USC, and FSU. Would love to see us go 2-1 before we hit the soft underbelly of our non-conference schedule.
