Da'Quan Bowers for Heisman?
So what does everyone think about Bowers for Heisman? Realistically, it's not going to happen. And quite frankly, I couldn't give a shit about the actual Heisman trophy or the voters after C.J. wasn't even invited to New York last year. But what do the fans think about calling Da'Quan the best player in the country?
Just for shits and giggles, let's compare Da'Quan's numbers so far to Ndamukong Suh's numbers at this point last year. According to ESPN, Da'Quan has 40 total tackles and 10 sacks through 7 games this year. Through 7 games last year, Suh (who was invited to NY) had 44 total tackles and 3 sacks.
So who else would you call the best player in the country? Denard Robinson has been pretty impressivee. Cam Newton has been pretty good too. Mark Ingram started the season hurt so he probably won't have the numbers this season. There's some good talent out there but I can't find anyone who I would say is hands-down better than Da'Quan. Obviously it's tough to compare offense to defense, but it doesn't take a genious to see that Bowers is a beast.
Bottom line, Da'Quan deserves to be in the running for the Heisman if he keeps up this pace. He'll be seriously handicapped though if Clemson can't win the ACC because "best player in the country" to Heisman voters just means "a good player on the best team."
These opinions are not necessarily those of the Proprietors of Shakin' The Southland.

It's pretty much Cam Newton's to lose at this point because Auburn is 1st in the BCS, and he's the biggest, most obvious reason why. Nothing else matters to the voters, really.
Robinson has the numbers but since Michigan isn’t winning, he’ll fall oh-so-close when in reality he never had a shot. Daquan certainly deserves to be mentioned.
After CJ got snubbed last year for at least going to New York in place of Tim Overrated, F the Heisman. It would be funny if Daquan got an invite, but turned them down with a public acknowledgment that it’s because of CJ.
Daquan’s going to be worth many, many millions before he’s done.
I would love nothing more
than to see Bowers turn down an invitation to the Heisman presentation. Or better yet, if he actually won the Heisman and then told all the voters to take the trophy and shove it because they have made the trophy meaningless over the last several years.
Not even if he sacked every QB on every pass play from here on out
just don’t think it’s possible with us not even being a ranked team.
You're probably right
Looking back to last year though, Suh was only somewhat mentioned as a candidate until he had 4 sacks in the Big 12 (or 10) championship game. After that, his stock sky-rocketed and he was invited to NY. If we can actually make it back to the championship game and Bowers has an outstanding game like Suh did, then he will probably get more consideration (especially if some of the other candidates fall off a little bit). I think the only way he would even have a half-way decent shot at winning it though would be if we were in the National Championship game, which obviously isn’t going to happen.
