2011 QB Tony McNeal commits to Clemson
One of the top 10 players in S.C. next year has committed to Clemson today on his unofficial visit to campus. McNeal was offered only a few weeks ago and said publicly that whomever offered him first would likely land him, and so committed today to CU. He has no other offers that I can find, but has received interest from Miami, Maryland, Miss. State, Kentucky, and a few others. He threw for over 3500 yards and 37 TDs as a sophomore, but tore an ACL this fall and undergoes surgery soon. He threw for 1700 yards and 18TDs in 8 games this year.
McNeal (6'1 180) plays at Chester, along with current 2010 commitment OL Kalon Davis, and will be either a high 3-star or low 4-star player when Juniors are rated this spring. He was recruited by WR Coach Jeff Scott, which signals a victory for facebook and text messaging.
He is the 6th commit for 2011 and is viewed by the staff as their #1 choice as a pro-style QB in-state; i.e., he is not considered a running QB and doesnt have to do it in Chester's offense. Clemson plans to take at least 2 QBs in the next class.
From his (limited that i have seen) film, he appears to be a typical dropback passer with pretty good footwork, and throws one of those high arcing balls, similar to what Korn threw in HS but perhaps stronger than Korn was, yet not as strong as Parker. The only other top QB in 2011 that I have seen in person is Justin Worley (Northwestern HS) who is not a Clemson lean, and seems to have a quicker release than McNeal.

Have heard great things about him
but that’s from the same crowd who couldn’t heap enough praise on guys like Brandon Clear and Willy Korn… so grain of salt.
The lack of offers is a bit concerning, too.
Still, the staff likes him better than Worley and Golson, so that’s saying something for sure. And he was apparently easily the best QB at camp. Not sure who was at that camp, but I’d assume Worley was, at least.
"He was recruited by WR Coach Jeff Scott, which signals a victory for facebook and text messaging."
lol, nice. Didn’t even catch that the first time.
McNeal versus Worley
How does McNeal stack up compared to Worley? Should we consider Worley a USC lean?
