OT Laurence Gibson and DT Josh Watson commit to Clemson

The Clemson staff garnered their 19th and 20th commitments for 2010 with Hargrave's DT Josh Watson and OT Laurence Gibson this evening as they wrap up their official visits. Both guys will be early enrollees for January, and both were pulled in by Danny Pearman.

Watson (***) is 6'3" 285, with full offers from UNC, Duke, and CU, as well as late interest by FSU, BC, NC State and Syracuse. His plans before this weekend included an official to UNC next weekend, no word whether this is cancelled or not. From his film, I see a Trey Tate-type player but with a quicker initial move.

Gibson (***) is 6'6" 300lbs, was a VT lean, but BC, Auburn and Ole Miss showed more interest of late. Clemson came into the weekend #2 on his list but apparently we have pulled it out. With JK Jay (2nd back surgery, gone at least for Spring, possibly much longer) and Cory Lambert gone now, this gives us much-needed depth at Tackle in the near future. For his size, Gibson moves very well and could be molded into a future LT. Gibson's HS film is included.

UPDATE Dec. 17: Gibson decommitted the next day, after giving permission to several recruiting outlets to say he committed to CU, and today affirmed his commitment to Frank Beamer.

CU has to keep at it in recruiting

Especially since the lock on the gate has been smashed at FSU following BB’s retirement. Fisher can now mold the team on both sides of the ball. As far as recruiting, those 2 schools will be the heavy hitters in the Atlantic Div. Plus it isn’t like there is a lack of talent in Florida (and southern GA). I’ll be watching with interest to see what kind of talent you guys pull in the next two classes.

recriuting looks pretty steady

we really need to build some depth up front (and a 6-6 300 lb player should help). this class is shaping up to be a solid class even though we are missing the big names we have grow accustomed to in past classes

I'm not, We just need solid guys, something we don't have

at the present time. I was thinking about Nicolopulos possibly making an impact right before that stoke happened (I’ve seen that happen far too often to loved ones in my family, and I hope he does recover is able to live a long normal life). CU needed more than just him and Chaney. I know the staff realizes this, and hopefully they can gain some headway with other prospects at the position (the one position in this class that is in dire need to be improved).

2011 LBs

We are in the picture for some absolute studs in 2011, but honestly, that’s gonna be too late.

There’s some JUCO who grew up in Abbeville or something, but there’s no way we could get him into school because our admin is a bunch of doucherockets.

they could go after someone late now with 2 scholarships free

Jake and Korn

it might be numbers but wont be high quality, we might have to just pray the young guys can step up….i think one will, too bad we need 3

Hawkins, Willard, and Christian

That group will be the difference between 7 wins and 10, IMO. If at least 2 of them excel, we will be back in the ACCCG.

If they can pull atleast 2 that could play immediately that would be great

The odds of that happening however are slim. This will be an important spring for Willard, Hawkins, and Christian. Let’s hope they can take that step forward, and that Steele can get them ready. I actually think they will, but as you pointed out to me in a previous response, experience will be lacking…

And now apparently Gibson is not committed

He told Clemson one thing, then went back and told Hokiehaven.com something different and he has no favorite as of tonight.

Late update

Gibson changed his commitment today to VT, basically telling them what he told us Saturday night.
